Check out our August edition of the Paw Print Press!

Aloha KHS Family,

Our affectionately named PAWS for Celebration annual fundraising gala is quickly approaching! KHS is very excited that this year it will be virtual.

At the event, staff will provide updates on what they have been working on, as well as future program goals. Animal Arts, experts in animal care facility architecture, will share their plans for growth and improvements to the current KHS facility. You can also look forward to learning more about exciting initiatives coming to the island of Kaua`i that will be benefiting Kaua`i’s animals and wildlife. And, of course, it would not be a gala without wine tasting, giveaways, auctions (live and silent), fashion show, live music, and celebrities. Expect a night of happy stories, new adventures, and lots of furry love.

Grab your $10 ticket today, unbox your Pono Pack, sit back, relax, and get ready for an evening that will fill your heart with joy.

July By The Numbers

Last month, KHS found homes for 124 dogs and cats, transferred 33 animals to our mainland partner shelters, and reunited 38 animals with their families.

MAHALO to all our amazing volunteers, staff, and supporters who helped so many happy tails come true!

Mahalo to everyone supporting our animals!

Keeping Families Together

This year, KHS has focused on keeping families together. We've held free spay and neuter clinics, free vaccine and microchip clinics and have given out free pet supplies, vaccines, microchips and surgery vouchers to the houseless residents of Kaua`i. We are working on expanding our services to the greater community to allow for more affordable pet services than our area currently allows. We want to help our community keep their pets, and keep their pets healthy and happy.

If you would like to support us in this exciting period of growth, please purchase your ticket to our biggest fundraiser of the year - "PAWS for Celebration" a virtual gala - and considering donating.

If you would like to sponsor this event, or have an item or experience to donate to the auction, please email tanya@kauaihumane.org.

Hoggle and Fellow are our featured pets this month.

Featured Animals: Hoggle & Fellow

Meet Hoggle: Hoggle is a six-year-old bull terrier hound who absolutely loves to play. She is full of energy and gets the most joy from playing with other dogs. She would love to have a doggie sibling or two to play and romp with her outside. She would also be an excellent companion to anyone who likes to go for long runs because this girl can run for miles. She is one of our most popular field trip dogs. Everyone who has taken her out on a field trip comes back raving about how sweet and loving she is. She does great with kids and is good for a long nap after a long hike. Hoggle would be an excellent family dog.

Meet Fellow: Fellow is the sweetest five-month-old male tabby. He lives in the BloomingTails Thrift Shop Pawlace and loves to snuggle his kitty roommates in the sunshine. He also loves to climb to the top of the cat tree and survey the shop. He keeps a close eye on things to makes sure everything is running smoothly. The shop manager says he's the best little helper when she needs rearranging. Visit BloomingTails to meet him!

Ashton is our staff spotlight this month.

Ashton with her cat Theo.

Staff Spotlight: Ashton Garrison

Ashton has been working at KHS since January. She started out as an animal care technician working with the cats and has recently transitioned to working the front desk. Ashton regularly fosters neonatal kittens until they are ready to go to their forever homes. Her first foster kitten was a foster failure and is now living permanently with Ashton. She said she really enjoys working with the animals and helping to place them into their forever homes. She said it is a very rewarding job and the people she works with are all equally passionate about animals which makes it easy to form strong relationships with her coworkers.

Faye and her dog.

Volunteer Spotlight: Faye Reese

Faye has been fostering for about 15 years, and has been volunteering at KHS for eight years. Faye takes all of the photos of the dogs for our website. She comes in every single weekend to photograph the new arrivals and then she spends hours editing the photos at home. It is so important that the animals have nice photos because the shelter is running by online appointments these days. Faye was never into photography before, but she realized that the animals needed better pictures, and so she took it upon herself to teach herself photography and invest in quality camera gear just for the task. She recently sponsored a new door that was just built into the second bank of dog kennels to reduce the stress levels of the dogs. Previously, the second bank dogs had to walk past the second and first banks of dogs to get into their play yard, but now they can go directly into the yard.
