| Aloha KHS Family, We are coming out of July on a high with 140 adoptions and jumping into August with a lot of excitement and momentum! For the entire month of August, we are participating in Clear the Shelters where every adoption comes with a gift. Next week, for the first time, we are partnering with Feeding Pets of the Homeless for their Give A Dog A Bone Week. We will be asking for food donations to stock our Gomez Galley Pet Food Pantry that helps families provide food to their pets. To thank our pet food donors, we will be giving each family a free microchip voucher for their pet and just in time for Check the Chip Day on August 15, which promotes updating your microchip information to ensure you are reunited with your pet as quickly as possible. Finally, on August 20, several staff members will be slipping into sneakers and showcasing their favorite sweatbands for the annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk. We have a busy month ahead of us with lots of activities and we hope you are able to join us. Sincerely, |

Featured Animals: Paxton & Cat Chow Meet Paxton: Paxton is a sweet 9-year-old male Border Collie/Australian Shepherd mix. He enjoys lounging around and just observing those around him. He's very gentle when taking treats and he's got a lot of fluffy fur! This sweet boy would thrive somewhere with a cool temperature! His adoption fee is waived through the month of August! Meet Cat Chow: Cat Chow is a 17-year-old medium hair female. She is extremely affectionate and loves to be held. She'll also come make herself comfortable on your lap if you don't pick her up first. She doesn't get along with younger, rambunctious cats, but has lived with smaller dogs in the past and doesn't mind them. She also wears a leash and harness and loves to lounge in the sunshine outside. Cat Chow's adoption fees have been waived through the month of August! |

Volunteer Spotlight: Maria and Jason Malm Maria and Jason Malm volunteer every July for the couple of weeks they are visiting Kaua`i. This July the couple spent hours and hours every day with our dogs volunteering their time, taking them on field trips, as well as donating lots of new toys and supplies! Jason was introduced to Kaua`i when he was active in the military and came to volunteer his time to provide affordable dental care to residents. The couple has come back every year (minus two years due to COVID) to volunteer at the shelter. They’ve adopted two dogs, Humphrey from KHS and Bubby from Kaua`i SPCA, which they’ve added to their pack in upstate New York. We will miss these amazing volunteers and look forward to their next visit! |

Staff Spotlight: Daniel "I've always wanted to work at KHS. Helping the animals is something I've always wanted to do. I enjoy community work and I just want to give back to the community." Daniel has worked at KHS for a couple of years now. His goal was to become a Humane Officer, but he needed a little more experience first. So, he began as an Animal Care Technician working directly with the animal populations, and he will officially transition to work as a Humane Officer next week! |
