Oakley is getting all the love from his adopted family!

Aloha KHS Family,

There is always a shelter pet who would love to be your Valentine. Stop by the Kaua’i Humane Society to find your fur-ever love as we have lowered our adoption prices on all adult (over 6 months of age) and senior animals. We are especially feeling the love for our felines as we have declared this month to be Feline February.

Feline February is going to be giving feline pet owners the opportunity to keep their pet safe with our breakaway collar exchange, keep them living long lives with our spay/neuter partnership with Kaua’i Community Cat Project, brag about their furry love with our E-Valentines, and potentially look at temporarily adding to their cat crew with our office cat foster program. Skip the chocolates and flowers and adopt a smitten kitten or a dog-gone great pup this Valentine’s Day!

Ruca is happy about our January adoption numbers.

January By The Numbers

Valentine's E-Cards

Although we all would love to make a real Valentine's card and give it to a friend in real-life, we're just not there yet. You can purchase an e-card from the safety of your own home and send it straight to your Valentine's inbox for the cost of a donation to the Kauai Humane Society. We have several options to pick from featuring the lovebugs here at the shelter. The best part is that your donation supports all our sweethearts at KHS.

Send a Valentine's e-card to your sweetheart.

Office Cat Program

Are you located on Kaua`i and working in an office with no animals? Boring! But, don't worry! We are now offering a cat office fostering program. Your office can pick out a cat from the shelter and foster him or her at your business. Your office cat comes with everything you need to host your new cubicle mate, including instant stress relief and reassurance that everything will be ok. Who knows, you may introduce the cat to his or her future family! Warning: your cat may lay on your keyboard and be too adorable for you to move.

Mindy and Rukkus are our two featured pets of the month.

Featured Animals: Mindy & Rukkus

Meet Mindy: Mindy is a 3-year-old sweetheart. She's been with the shelter since October and we guess she must have had a rough life before coming to us because she is incredibly shy and often has a look of concern on her face. She is incredibly sweet and loves to make the cutest muffins when she's happy, like in her photo. She would love to go to a patient home where her family can give her good pets and attention now and again to remind her that everything is just fine. Have a heart and teach Mindy that true love is out there for her.

Meet Rukkus: Rukkus is a three-year-old Terrier/American Staffordshire mix. He has short white fur with brown spots including an adorable brown spot over one eye. He was surrendered to KHS last December when his owners moved back to the mainland and couldn't take him with them. Rukkus is housetrained and is great with kids and cats. He is fearful of big men and other dogs; he would do best in a household with just moms. If you're a single lady looking for a stud muffin to take home, one who's great with children and loves cats, then look no further.

Kai is our staff spotlight this month.

Staff Spotlight: Kai Isla

"It’ll be nine years in November that I’ve worked here. When we moved here we had to go through the whole quarantine process with our kitten and he had to stay here for one month. I visited him almost every day and the lady that worked with cats noticed I was good with animals and have a good work ethic. She asked me if I wanted to apply to work here and the rest was history. I’ve been here ever since. Out of all the jobs I’ve had in my lifetime, this is the most rewarding. This is the one that keeps me going."

Carol is the Kauai Humane Society's volunteer of the month.

Volunteer Spotlight: Carol Everett

“I started as a volunteer in the spay/neuter clinic in 2003 and I volunteered there about 20 hours a week. I helped start the foster program and the humane education program at KHS. I retired from the shelter in 2013. Since I retired my husband and I spend six months on the mainland and six here and when I come back I volunteer a couple of days a week. This year it looks like I’ll be back in the spay/neuter clinic or wherever else they need me. Animal welfare is where my heart is.”
