Love is in the air at KHS and if you are looking for a furry Valentine, the month of February is offering a lot of wonderful adoption opportunities to help you find love. You can learn about some of our spotlighted dogs and cats while out and about on Kaua`i as Brick Oven Pizza, Kickshaws, Brianne and Co., Seoul 2 Soul, and Fish Eye Gallery are providing adoption flyers with each take-out container or purchase. 

But love is in the air everywhere, not just at KHS, so be sure to sign up for one of our low-cost spay/neuter clinics or take advantage of Good Fix’s free spay/neuter clinics happening this month. It will make your furry friend healthier and happier. Happy Valentine’s Day!

January By The Numbers

Last month, KHS found homes for 134 dogs and cats, transferred 41 animals to our mainland partner shelters, and reunited 41 animals with their families.

Valentine's Ecards

When you send a Valentine's Ecard through the Kaua`i Humane Society, the proceeds from your Ecard purchase goes directly to the shelter pets at KHS, like Samson here who has been at the shelter for more than 150 days. It's the perfect gift to send friends and family, plus we customize the Ecard for you! 

 

February Adoption Specials

Thanks to Shula, a generous donor who made a gift in memory of Antonio, we have lots of adoption specials this month! 

Dog Adoption Specials:

  • All dogs who have been at the shelter longer than 100 days are free, and will go home with a free dog Starter Pack and 3 months of flea preventative.
  • Dogs who have been at the shelter longer than 100 days that are adopted or transferred off island, will receive $150 towards their flight expense instead of the free supplies.
  • The first 50 adult and senior dogs adopted on or off island will be free and receive a free collar and leash!

Cat Adoption Specials:

  • All cats who have been at the shelter longer than 100 days are free.
  • All orange cats and kittens are half-off in honor of the Year of the Tiger.

Featured Animals: Esmeralda & Polu

Meet Esmeralda: Esmeralda is a one-year-old tabby girl with the most loving personality. It was only fitting to feature her this month because she is so affectionate and sweet. She was brought into the shelter as a stray and has been at KHS for several months now. She loves to snuggle and enjoys soft beds. She's a big fan of the plush doughnut beds. She's easy-going, gets along well with other cats, and will politely ask for pets. This sweet girl is ready to meet her match this month! 

Meet Polu: Polu is a five-year-old American Staffordshire/hound mix. This big lug LOVES toys. Whatever you do, don't give him a plushy because he loves to tear the stuffing out. He's much better suited for rubber KONG toys with peanut butter stuffed inside! Polu has a goofy personality and is always happy-go-lucky. All he needs is a scratch behind the ears and a yard to explore to be truly happy. He is such a loving dog. He's attentive and listens well. He could be trained pretty easily to learn all sorts of tricks. If you're looking for a stud muffin to spend Valentine's with, then look no further!

 

Online Auction Benefitting KHS

KHS was recently gifted a large amount of jewelry by a generous supporter. Our friends at Malama Auctions have put together an online auction to help us turn this gift into funds for the animals. This auction is filled with tons of beautiful and unique pieces of jewelry with asking bids ranging from $2-$230. You can find a gift for everyone on your list this Valentine's Day with those prices, and support the shelter animals at the same time! 

The auction is live and runs through 7 p.m. HST, Feb. 8.

Volunteer Spotlight: Our Generous Donors

We just wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has donated to our many fundraisers these last several months. Thank you to everyone who donated to our X-ray fundraiser! We are well on our way to having our very own X-ray machine.

We also wanted to thank generous, Shula, who have made the adoption specials possible this month by making a gift in memory of Antonio.

Staff Spotlight: Stepping Up

We are so excited to be welcoming many new staff members this year. As an evolving organization, it is vital to have the space to grow to fit our community's needs. One of the great things about working at KHS, is that we encourage our staff to move around and try out different departments until they find the right fit. This is why we offer job listings to staff before the public. 

Most recently, we are proud to welcome two of our Animal Care Technicians - Steph and Bridgette, as they transition from the positions of Animal Care Technicians to Vet Technicians! Way to go ladies!

We're partnering with Embark to offer DNA & Health kits to our adopters for $50 off. Plus, KHS receives a commission for every kit sold!
