| Aloha KHS Family, We enter November with much gratitude and appreciativeness. We are grateful for our fosters, our volunteers, our transfer partners, our adopters, and our supporters. Kaua`i Humane Society saw a continuously high shelter population this year, but our positive outcomes remained high thanks to adopters and transfer partners. Kaua`i Humane Society saw staffing shortages, but our animals continued to receive amazing care thanks to our volunteers and fosters. Kaua`i Humane Society was able to heal from the trauma of a break-in that resulted in the release of our dogs from their kennels, thanks to our supporters. Despite the hurdles we faced, Kaua`i Humane Society was able to open a Community Care Center, host quarterly community outreach events, and find homes for more than 100 animals through Mission Mainland this year. Thank you for your dedication to Kauai’s pets and for your continuous support of the Kaua`i Humane Society. Happy Thanksgiving! Sincerely, |

| October By The Numbers Last month, KHS found homes for 123 dogs and cats, transferred 27 animals to our mainland partner shelters, and reunited 28 animals with their families. MAHALO to all of our amazing volunteers, staff, and supporters who helped so many happy tails come true! |

| | | Giving Tuesday 2022 Mark your calendars! Giving Tuesday is Tuesday, Nov. 29! This is one of the biggest fundraising events of the year! If you're able to donate, please consider donating to the Kaua`i Humane Society to help us feed, medicate and care for the more than 300 animals we currently have in our custody. This fundraising event also sets us up for success to care for the thousands of animals we will take in next year. Every little bit counts. Thank you for your continued support of the Kaua`i Humane Society. With your help, we can successfully care for and heal thousands of homeless Kaua`i pets. |

| | Home for the Holidays - Foster a shelter pet in your home for the holiday break (or longer).
- Pick up anytime before 4 p.m. the day before Thanksgiving, and drop off anytime after Thanksgiving Day. The shelter will be closed Thursday, Thanksgiving Day.
- This is a wonderful way to give back this holiday season and give a shelter pet a break from our overcrowded shelter.

| | | Featured Animals: Boogie & Lava Meet Boogie: Boogie is an eight-year-old female hound dog who has all the energy of a young pup. Her best friend is Chupa Chups Lollipop (the handsome golden boy pictured at the very top of the newsletter)! Together, they like to circle the play yard to ensure no pigs are sneaking in. You wouldn't have to worry about chickens or pigs getting into the yard with these two because they are on it! Boogie is more relaxed than active. After she makes her rounds, she prefers to just sit back and keep an eye on things while Chupa runs around. Boogie is a sweet girl who is friendly with most dogs and will take any opportunity to snuggle into your lap if you let her! Adopt Boogie and Chups together for the ultimate pair. Boogie would do well with another dog, but she would also do well as an only dog. Meet Lava: Lava is a one-year-old male domestic shorthair who has spent much of his life in the shelter. But, he doesn't let that get him down! He always makes friends with the kitties in his kennel and would do well in a home with or without other pets. Lava's adoption has been sponsored! He's been with KHS for 167 days! So, let's get this good boy in a forever home! |

| Volunteer Spotlight: Kim McDonald Kim has been volunteering at KHS for four years. She started out by helping prep dogs for the field trip program, and then was introduced to our volunteer dog photographer. This is where Kim brings the magic. Kim has such a gentle way with the dogs. She can get even the most frightened dogs to take the most beautiful pictures! She completes the dynamic duo and is a key component to our beautiful dog photos on our website! When she has extra time, she likes to sit with the shy dogs. Kim said the best part of volunteering is seeing the shy dogs begin to come out of their shell after working with them. |

| | Staff Spotlight: Zoe Shinno Zoe is KHS's Direct Release Coordinator, aka Pet Animal Inspection Specialist. She's one of two special employees who are helping to protect our island from the rabies virus. Hawaii is the only state in the U.S. that is free of rabies. "The best part of my job is meeting the pet and their owner at the airport. They are both so happy and relieved to finally touchdown on Kaua`i. I wish the pet could understand how much their owner cares to go through the entire process of bringing it to Hawaii." Zoe's advice for those planning on bringing their pets to the island is to, "Give yourself lots of time to plan ahead. Whether you are returning to, visiting or moving to Kaua`i with your cat or dog, we really want to help make your travel as stress-free and easy as possible." |
